Fat augmentation has been recommended to restore youthful fullness with good results. However, longevity has been problematic over the decades. Lower reabsorption techniques were obtained by use of low-pressure suction technique during fat harvesting, multiple layered microinjection technique, preparing fat grafts with platelet rich plasma and restoring colloid pressure using albumin in collection syringe. Centrifuges have been used to separate fat cells among mixed suspension of significantly different densities. The choice of a specific relative centrifugal force, types of centrifuges, speed control, and brake were investigated. In addition, processed lipoaspirate (PLA) cells consisting of mesodermal stem cell population, were harvested.
We could confirm lower reabsorption and thus less requirements for second operation compared to conventional autologous fat transplantation. Investigation of further clinical applications are required based upon the multiple potential of PLA cells.
